The Chicago Public Art Group
Programs
As community artists working in many of Chicago's poorest neighborhoods
with organizations representing those neighborhoods or special
constituencies, we create work which affirms the values and insights of
those communities. Choice of media varies according to the artists skills
and the needs of the local communities.
New Schools
Artists working with the entire school community,
integrating curriculum and multi-generational teams to create large scale
public art work.
Small Walls
Artists working with community development organizations
and neighborhood groups to do murals, mosaics, or sculpture with matching
money.
Youth Training
Primarily, but not entirely during the summer, CPAG
artists lead teams in creating large scale public work while teaching team
skills, individual responsibility and problem solving.
Restore!
Chicago's significant historic community murals are restored
by CPAG artists as a sign of respect for our elders, for the vitality of the
movement, and for the murals connection to the communities in which they are
sited.
Special Projects
CPAG artist facilitate, in conjunction with
architectural and landscape design professionals, the use of community art
as a means to tell stories and enhance stewardship.
